Managed Ceph with Kubernetes
A customer approached us to help them build their new IaaS platform. We helped him to evaluate the current situation and worked out a concept together with the customer…
Ceph is an open source, distributed, software-defined storage system that can provide block, object, and file storage. It could not only scale-up as the usual storage solutions – scale-out a is also possible and the the main advantage for using Ceph.
The main difference between Ceph and others is the CRUSH algorithm. CRUSH stands for Controlled Replication Under Scalable Hashing and eliminates the need for centralized metadata and is able to distribute the load across all nodes within the Ceph cluster.
Using CRUSH as algorithm, the data placement – instead been based on table lookup is calculated. This enables you to scale to hunderds of petabytes without common bottlenecks you may expiriencing using boxed storage clusters. As clients are directly connecting to the OSDs – it eliminates single points of failure.
Ceph provices three types of storage:
Using Ceph with the Object Storage via the RADOS Gateway it enables you to use S3 and Swift to store data.
For what use cases can I use Ceph?
– Kubernetes
– OpenStack
– Backup Storage
– S3 / Switch Storage
Do you have a use case for Ceph? Then get in touch with us!
Ceph uniquely delivers object, block, and file storage in one unified system. Ceph is highly reliable, easy to manage, and free. The power of Ceph can transform your company’s IT infrastructure and your ability to manage vast amounts of data. Ceph delivers extraordinary scalability–thousands of clients accessing petabytes to exabytes of data. A Ceph Node leverages commodity hardware and intelligent daemons, and a Ceph Storage Cluster accommodates large numbers of nodes, which communicate with each other to replicate and redistribute data dynamically.
