DSX 2026 Recap: Why Ceph hits the mark

Escaping the Silo Trap: Why Ceph is the Foundation for a Future-Proof Infrastructure.

The DSX (Data Storage Conference) in Frankfurt was a major success for CLYSO. David Mohren’s session proved that our approach to storage resonates deeply with today's IT challenges. Here is our personal recap.

Engaging the Audience

David’s talk, "Trapped in the Silo?", saw a great turnout with about 70% room occupancy. But it wasn't just about the numbers; it was about the interaction. The audience was highly engaged, asking detailed questions about Ceph architecture and sharing their own real-world challenges. It felt less like a lecture and more like a collaborative deep dive.

Key Takeaways: Scalability without Dead Ends

A major focus was how to break free from rigid infrastructure. We explored why Ceph is the technical answer to "scaling dead ends":

  • Consolidation over Complexity: Unified Storage (Block, File, Object) simplifies fragmented data into a single, flexible stack.

  • Linear Growth: With no single point of failure or central "choke point," the system scales natively with your needs.

  • Zero Downtime: Adding new servers immediately increases capacity and performance—no forklift upgrades, no interruptions. Mixing different hardware generations in heterogeneous clusters is standard practice.

Digital Sovereignty as "Insurance"

The concept of a "Private Storage Cloud" sparked great interest. In the world of Ceph, sovereignty means true self-determination:

  • Hardware Independence: Ceph runs on commodity hardware. This lowers TCO and frees you from vendor lock-in.

  • No Black Box: Open-source code means verifiable quality. This transparency is vital for meeting strict regulatory standards like BSI or DORA.

Front and Center: The Guided Tours

A highlight of DSX was the Guided Tours hosted by Vogel IT. As one of the six featured sponsors, we had the opportunity to introduce CLYSO, our role on the Ceph Board, and our work with the NeoNephos Foundation. It was a great way to lower the threshold for first contact and led to high-level technical discussions at our booth.

Final Thoughts: DSX was easily one of the best-organized conferences we’ve attended in years. The professional atmosphere and fantastic feedback made it a highlight of our calendar. See you next time!
